JAMMU, Nov 20: A meeting of the Jammu Heritage Society Jammu was held here today under the chairmanship of its president Bhuvneshwar Gandotra, to discuss ways and means to press upon the Government for preservation and show casing of historical cultural and religious heritage of Jammu.
The meet expressed serious concern over the Government silence on Mubarak Mandi project for which a sum of Rs 239 crore is lying unspent and a meager sum of Rs 2 crores is being spent by the Archeological Survey of India per year, meaning thereby that the Mubarak Mandi restoration shall need a century to get completed.
The Society urges upon the Minister of State Priya Sethi to take an initiative to complete the project of Mubarak Mandi on war footing as has been done by the Government of Punjab in completing Golden Temple Corridor Project. “Also our demand of declaring Mubarak Mandi as Trade Mark for J&K State be also agreed to promote tourism. Another matter of concern is the inadequate showcasing of Bahu Fort for which the Society has made various representations from time to time,” the meet said and added that the Bahu Fort is another heritage site which depicts the warfare techniques of erstwhile Maharajas’ rule besides wonderful scenes of Mubarak Mandi, Surya Putri Mandir and chugging train to Udhampur.
Bhuvneshwar Gandotra requested the Minister to ensure public entry to Bahu Fort to showcase heritage of the State and opined that the same can give an impetus to tourism industry of J&K State. “Besides Bahu Fort, Akhnoor Fort and Bhimgarh Fort can also be showcased in initial stages and later fort of Rajouri, Samba and other Forts can also be brought on Tourist map,” the Society said.
The meet urged the Minister to take personal interest in completion of the projects on time bound basis so that economy doesn’t suffer because of extension of Railways to Kashmir by 2020 and construction of Express Corridor from New Delhi to Katra bypassing Jammu.
The meeting was attended by chairman of the society, Om Prakash Gupta, ex-founder president and advisor Baldev Khullar, Ajesh Rohmetra, Sanjeev Kalra, Ashwani Arora, Sanjay Gupta, Amit Goel and others.
