Divum Gupta drubs Vipul Saini to win men’s title

JAMMU, Nov 21: Drubbing strong contender Vipul Saini convincingly in the summit clash, ace stuttler Divum Gupta won the title trophy in the Jammu District Badminton Championship, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Badminton Association, which concluded at Police Lines, here.
Earlier, in under-10 boys singles, Shaurya Pratham emerged winner and Bhavdeep Singh claimed runners-up title, while in under-10 girls singles, Snowy Goswami and Sambhavi Rajput bagged the winners and runners-up titles.
In under-13 boys singles, Vidhan emerged winner and Sanyam was the runners-up, while in under-13 boys doubles final, Sant Singh and Sanyam got the better of the pair of Ayush and Danish.
In under-13 girls singles, Unnati Jaswal prevailed over Snowy Goswami in the title clash, while in under-13 girls doubles, Prajal and Unnati outplayed Krishika and Sambhavi in the final.
In under-15 boys singles, Aesh Goswami won the title, while in doubles final, Aesh Goswami and Yashdeep claimed the title.
Rashmi Kashyap won the under-15 girls title, defeating Snowy in the title clash, while in doubles, the duo of Rashmi and Anandita prevailed over Prajal and Unnati.
The winners in Under-17 boys singles, under-17 boys doubles, under-17 girls singles, under-17 girls doubles, under-19 boys singles, under-19 boys doubles and under-19 girls singles were Aesh Goswami, Nakul & Sarabjeet, Rashmi Kashyap, Rashmi & Poorvi, Raghav Dogra, Mohit and Raghav and Niteshi Saini respectively.
In women’s singles final, Niteshi Saini trounced Preeti Gupta, while in veteran singles, Anil Gurkha got the better of Ramesh Sharma and in veteran doubles, the pair of Anil Gurkha and Raju Chawla defeated Ramesh and Vivek Slathia.
In Combine age group men, Anil Gurkha and Raju Chawla defeated Lalit Arora and RK Sodhi, while in mixed doubles, Sultan Mieza and Basanti Bhat outplayed Vikas Sahrma and Rakhi Mehta in the final.
Meanwhile, former Commissioner Kiran Wattal and former IGP, Gulzar Singh Slathia were honoured on the occasion for their excellence in prestigious Sudhama Cup Badminton Tournament, organized by NRI at Delhi recently. The duo of Wattal and Slathia entered the quarterfinal stage in doubles event of above 60 category in this Championship. Around 900 shuttlers from South Asian countries and various States of India participated in this Championship.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr SD Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu, Gulzar Singh Slathia, IGP (Rtd), Dr. OD Sharma, Chairman, J&K Badminton Association, Kiran Wattal, Ex-Commissioner, Ranjeet Kalra, Sports Advisor Government of Lakshwadeep and  Balbir Jamwal, General Secretary, J&K Badminton Association.
