Mayank, Sumit slam tons as Delhi in command; J&K batsmen struggle

JAMMU, Dec 7: Skipper Mayank Gusain and middle-order batsman, Sumit Chhikara slammed magnificent centuries as strong Delhi declared their innings at 468/4 to gain a huge lead of 308 runs against Jammu and Kashmir on day-2 of the ongoing Vijay Merchant Under-16 Cricket Tournament at Palam cricket ground, Delhi.
In reply, J&K were struggling at 36/5 in their second essay at the draw of stumps today. Mohammad Manzir and Praful Dhar were unbeaten on 4 off 30 balls and 1 off 15 balls respectively. Abrahim Ahmed Masoodi was the only batsman to cross the double figure mark, scoring 15 runs, while Yuvraj Saini (9), Ashim Nanda (6), Sumer Singh (0) and Dhruv V Gupta (0) went cheaply. Raghuv Nagpal scalped 3 wickets, while Ayush Singh and Kamal Bairwa claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, resuming from 71/1, the overnight batsmen Gourav Rana and Yash Dhull scored 86 and 82 runs respectively to surpass the J&K’s first innings score, before skipper Mayank Gusain (144*) and Sumit Chhikara (113) scored brilliant centuries to take the score to 468/4 and declare the innings. For J&K, medium pacer, Mohammad Yawar bagged 2 wickets, while spinners Praful Dhar and Ashim Nanda claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, batting first on day-1, J&K had scored a total of 160 runs in their first innings.
Jammu and Kashmir is still trailing by 272 runs with 5 wickets in hand.
