JAMMU, Dec 26: Getting the better of strong Goa in a close contest in the summit clash, formidable Jammu and Kashmir under-19 boys team lifted the title trophy of the 63rd National School Games in the discipline of Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament at Neemich in Madhya Pradesh.
Batting first, Goa scored a decent total of 58 runs in the stipulated 10 overs.
In reply, Jammu and Kashmir chased the target in 9.1 overs. For his splendid all-round display, Umar of J&K was declared as the man of the series.
Earlier, J&K defeated Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Daman Diu and Tamil Nadu before entering into the last four stage.
In semifinals, J&K thrashed CBSC and sealed berth in the finals of the Championship.
The State boys’ team remained unbeaten in the entire Tournament, while the State girls team lost to Uttar Pradesh in the semifinals. Uttar Pradesh eves emerged as champion in the girls category.
The team reached Jammu today and met the Director Youth Services and Sports, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, who honoured the players along with the support staff headed by Farooq Ahmed Salroo, manager of the contingent.
Officials of the Department BK Tickoo and Nazir Ahmed were also part of the support staff.
