District Jammu claims men, women titles

JAMMU, Jan 4: Jammu District defeated Unique Sports Club in the summit clash to lift the men’s Tug of War title, while Jammu outplayed Samba District in the final to claim the women’s title in the 3rd Senior Open State Tug of War Championship, which concluded at Unique HSS, Gadi Garh, here.
The Championship was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Tug of War Association, under the overall supervision of President of the Association, Hardeep Singh Anand.
Earlier in the men’s semifinals, Jammu beat Samba (2-1) and Unique Sports Club trounced Pulwama 2-0, while in women’s semifinals, Jammu District got the better of Pulwama District by 2-0, while Samba prevailed over Unique Sports Club by 2-1 sets.
Charanjit Singh Khalsa, MLC was the chief guest on the occasion, while Jodh Singh Ishar, Working Secretary, Jasbir Singh, Jt. Secretary of J&K TOW Association, Amarjit Singh, retired SSP, Jammu, Dr Aliyas, Ravinder Singh, International player of Tug-of-War and Nirlep Kaur, Principal Unique Public HSS Gadi Garh were the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa stressed upon the participants to take sports activities and be away from drugs and other allied evils.
He distributed certificates and trophies’ amongst the winners and runners-up teams.
The selected players in this championship will participate in the 30th Senior men and women National Championship and 15th Senior Federation Cup being held from January 13 to January 18, 2018 at Sports Complex Shri Tej Bahadur Khalsa College, Roopnagar, Anandpur Sahib, Punjab.
The selected players will have to attend coaching camp at UPHSS Gadi Garh from tomorrow.

The matches were officiated by Ravinder Singh, Chief Refree, Gaurav Kumar Dubey, Referee, while Robin Singh and Sourbh Dubey were the umpires.
