JAMMU, Jan 9: State president of the ruling BJP and MLA Jammu West, Sat Sharma today found a friend in main opposition National Conference when Mohd Shafi Uri invited attention of the Chair towards allotment of seat to the former in last row of the benches in the House.
“I am surprised why no one from his party raised this issue. Either he (Sat Sharma) is president of the party for only formality sake or something wrong has been done with him,” the NC MLA said amid whispers from Treasury as well as opposition benches.
Shafi Uri said that he has had been Member of the House for several times besides getting an opportunity to be a Parliamentarian but had never seen a ruling party president among back benchers.
“As per precedence of this House and Parliament also, the ruling party president sits in the front row but he ( Sat Sharma) has been seated here in the extreme last,” said Mr Uri and urged the Speaker to accommodate the BJP president at suitable place even if he has been elected to the House for the first time.
Though Sat Sharma also stood up and tried to say something, Shafi Uri continued to urge for correction in the sitting arrangement while BJP MLA Ravinder Raina and some opposition members endorsed the suggestion.
Ravinder Raina said that they had also raised the issue earlier and he extended thanks to Shafi Uri for the suggestion. Mr Raina was also seen shaking hands with Shafi Uri and some other opposition members for conveying gratitude on raising the issue.
However, there was no response from Speaker Kavinder Gupta, who was in the Chair that time.
