JAMMU, Jan 10: A book release function was organized by Writers’ Forum, Jammu, here today where a novel titled ‘Maa’, written by Joginder Singh Pandhi and a book, based on articles by various writers on Joginder Singh Pandhi and his literature, titled ‘Joginder Singh Pandhi: Jivan Te Rachna’ compiled and edited by Popinder Singh Paras and Kalakaar Vishesh Ank, were released.
S Didar Singh, a well known Punjabi and Hindi short story writer of J&K, presided over the function while S Surinder Seerat was the chief guest on this occasion. S Pritpal Singh Betab, an Urdu Ghazal writer, Joginder Singh Pandhi, a Kashmir based Punjabi writer/ poet and Popinder Singh Paras, Editor Sheeraza Punjabi also shared the dais.
Papers based on the content and expressions in the writings, included in the released books, were read out in the function by Dr Pritam Singh of Jammu University and Prof Jagir Singh Noor from Punjab.
The plot of the novel revolves around the tragic events with the Kashmiri Sikhs during 1947 partition era. According to Kanwal Kashmiri, the Chinar is the central symbol of the play and the theme is woven around the environment of Jehlum river and dealing with the life and culture of Kashmir. According to him it’s a fictionalized documentation of that period.
S Didar Singh, Pritpal Singh Betab and Surinder Singh Seerat also expressed their views on the books released in the function.
The programme was conducted by S Popinder Singh Paras while the vote of thanks was presented by Dr Sudhir Mahajan, president of the Writers Forum, Jammu.
Meanwhile, Anila Singh Charak was announced as the vice- president of Writers’ Forum, Jammu. Announcement in this regard was made by Sudhir Mahajan, president of the Forum.
He has already announced the executive body with Pritpal Singh Betab and Raj Kumar Chandan as patrons, Sham Sajan as general secretary, Suraj Rattan as Literary Secretary, Jang S Verman as Media Secretary and Amarjeet Kaur as Executive Member.
