JAMMU, Jan 23: The employees of National Health Mission (NHM) today suspended their 35-day long strike after Health Minister Bali Bhagat assured them to fulfill their genuine and long pending demands.
During the meeting which was held yesterday between the representatives of NHM Employees’ Association (NHMEA) with Health Minister Bali Bhagat, MoS Health Asiya Naqash, Principal Secretary Health Dr Pawan Kotwal, MD NHM Dr Mohan Singh and other concerned officers, the Minister set up an inter departmental committee from GAD to examine and follow the regularization issue of NHM employees.
The NHM employees of the State including RNTCP, JKSACS and other schemes of NHM were protesting for the last 35 days demanding regularization of services and other benefits at par with other Government employees, claiming that most of them have completed about a decade of contractual service and have crossed the age bar limit.
Spokesperson of the Association, Faizan A Tramboo said that all the demands of NHM employees including immediate hike of 8 percent in salary from current year i.e 2017-18, besides other benefits like leave benefit with salary, earned leave, medical leave, mediclaim benefit, ex gratia to next kins of those who die, accidental cover upto Rs 10 lakh, etc, were accepted by the Minister during the meeting.
Provincial president, NHMEA, Rohit Seth, president, RNTCP, Dr S S Sambyal and president NACO, Nisar Ahmed Dar and other core committee members of the Jammu division association assured to suspend the strike and resume the routine work from tomorrow onwards.
Leaders of NHM employees further said that in case they did not get the written documents or orders regarding the Minister’s assurances from the Government within days, then they would again revive the agitation any time.
