JAMMU, Jan 23: On the occasion of 3rd Foundation Day, a seminar on “Economic Potential of Jammu Region and Employment Avenues”, was organized by Interaction Forum Jammu Province (IFJP), here today.
The intellectuals representing all the districts and tehsil of Jammu region consisting of professionals, experts, legal luminaries, former bureaucrats, scientists, defence officers, academicians, social and political activists, youth and women, representatives of social, trade, worker, groups and organizations, doctors and engineers participated and interacted in this historical event.
The event resolved for restoration of moral values, brotherhood, communal harmony, eradication of social evils, improvement of quality of life and need of good governance.
The function was presided over by Dr Irshad Ahmed Hamal, Former Vice Chancellor, BGSB University and BR Kundal, Former Chief Secretary was the chief guest. Dr Harbans Singh, Former VC SKAUST, KB Jandyal, IAS Retd and Former Legislator Ashok Sharma, Advocate were the guests of honour and MK Bangroo Veteran Journalist, SS Dogra Former IGP, Anoop Singh Salathia, IPS, District and Sessions Judges Harbans Lal and Hari OM Singh, Former Deputy Commissioner, BS Jamwal, Former MD, Dr YP Sawhney, Prof M Iqbal, Capt LK Sharma IFS, Col Bana Ram, Subash Shastri President NMC, MK Bhardwaj Advocate, Ex-President BAJ, Rajiv Jandyal Ex President Jandyal Birdari, Dr Iftkar Hussain, Dr VK Sharma, Vijay Sharma, President Bar Association Reasi, Bishan Dass President Prajapati Sabha Kathua, Col BD Sharma and galaxy of experts presented their views.
A serious concern was expressed over non utilization of minerals, hydraulic, agriculture, horticulture, medicinal plants and tourism potential of Jammu region. It was specifically resolved that sapphire mines major precious mineral of paddar area of Kishtwar District in Jammu province has approximate annual extraction potential of 5000 gems valuing Rs 1 lakh crore which is ten times of J&K State Budget but remained un-utilize resulting into unemployment and unrest among the youth, poverty, lack of communication, health, education and drinking water needs.
