JAMMU, Jan 24: A delegation of College Teachers Association led by the president CTA Jammu, Prof D S Manhas, called on the Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Jammu to discuss various issues related to college teachers.
CTA stated that as per the Cluster University of Jammu Act, the teachers of Government Colleges have to be recognized by the Cluster University for teaching in constituent colleges of Cluster University but the process of recognition has not yet started. The Association demanded that the process of recognition of eligible college teachers in constituent colleges and in the Schools of Cluster University should be initiated and processed immediately.
CTA demanded the starting of research activity in Cluster University as early as possible and registration of college teachers for pursuing and guiding research should be given top priority. CTA raised the issue of allowing the college teachers to act as guide and co-guides for pursuing research, which is an important component for teachers to enhance their academic skills and educational acumen and to contribute towards knowledge and academic improvement.
The Association demanded the introduction of Departments of Physical Education, Library Science and Directorate of Sports for the overall development of students.
CTA raised the issue of remuneration for the Conduct of Examination and evaluation, which should be at par with remuneration provided by the Jammu University.
CTA also raised various other demands such as reservation of seats for wards of college teachers in each PG Department of the University, nomination of president of CTA as a member of University Council and University Syndicate, conduct of examination during non vacation period and declaration of results in time.
The Vice Chancellor gave a patient hearing and informed the Association that for recognition of college teachers in Cluster University clarification from Higher Education Department has been sought for the number of posts to be recognized in different subjects and for the status of pension of those teachers who are appointed before 2010 to be recognized by the university. She further stated that all other demands of the association were also under positive consideration.
The members of CTA, present in the meeting, included Dr Anil Ganjoo, Dr Jagjit Singh, Prof Sanjay Kotwal, Prof Vishal Sharma, Dr Davinder Kour and Dr Sandhya Bhardwaj.
