Thousands participate in Muharram procession

JAMMU, Nov 25: Like other parts of the country a large Muharram procession was taken out here today by the members of Shia community.
The procession started from Pir Mitha and after passing via Lakhdata Bazar, Rajinder Bazar, Shaheedi Chowk, Wazarat road it culminated at Karbala with Sham-e-Gariban.
Thousands of Shia Muslims drawn from different parts of State participated in Muharram procession.
The mourners were wearing black clothes, wailing and beating their chests with fists and chains and reciting “Nawhah” in memory of Imam Hussain and his 72 companions.
The members of Hindu community had installed stalls to provide drinking water, juice and milk to mourners enroute. The procession was jointly organized by Anjuman-e-Islamia, Jammu, Anjuman-e-Hydari, New Plots, Anjuman-e-Hussaini Bhatindi, Ladakh Students Federation, Kargil in which besides the members of Shia Federation, members of Shia community from Poonch, Chanderkote, Ramban and Kashmir also participated.
At the Sham-e-Gariban in the evening, Moulana Syed Ali Raza threw light on the significance of Muharram in Islam and war of Karbalah in which Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed and his 72 companions laid supreme sacrifices while fighting for the truth and left an example for the people to follow.
He said Islam is for the peace and brotherhood and it has always stood against the oppressor and supported the suppressed. He said Imam-e-Hussain was the first person in the world, who fought against terrorism and brutality.
The administration had made elaborate arrangements for the Muharram procession and a big contingent of police besides the doctors with ambulances were escorting the procession to avert any untoward incident.
Reports reaching here from Mendhar (Poonch) said that Muharram procession was also taken out in the town today. The procession started from Mukadal Academy Mendhar and after passing through the various markets it culminated at Imambara Sangla Chowk.
Different Anjumans of the town participated in the procession led by Syed Munir Hussain Shah.
Another procession was taken out in Gursian Nullah. It started from Harmutta. It was led by Syed Mukhtar Hussian Shah.
Various mourning processions from near by villages of Kargil town were also taken out on Aashora today to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his 72 companions.
The procession from various villages reached Islamia School Kargil and passing through T Chowk, Lal Chowk it concluded at Qatilgah-e-Hussaini (Inqalab Manzil) and public park Kargil.
The mourners wearing black cloths, beating their chests, doing Matam Zanjeer and reciting “Nawah”from different parts of the district joined the main procession in Kargil town.
