JAMMU, Feb 9: The 1st Jammu and Kashmir State Masters (Veteran) Badminton Championship was declare open by OD Sharma, Chairman J&K State Badminton Association and Vice President Badminton Association of India in an impressive and well attended function at Badminton Hall, Police Lines, here today.
About 150 players including men and women drawn from various districts of the State are participating in the tournament.
The Championship will enable the organizers to select the team to represent the State in the forthcoming 42nd Masters (Veteran) National Badminton Championship to be held at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh from February 19 to February 25, 2018.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Gulzar Singh Slathia, Kiran Wattal, Jung Bahadur Singh Jamwal, Som Raj, Sukhdev Singh and Sarvanan Sundaram.
In men’s above 40 singles, Puran Chand defeated S Sarvanan by (21-15, 12-21, 21-19), while in above 45 singles, Sanjeev Arora drubbed Sanjeev Slathia (21-8, 21-7) and Sukhdev Singh beat Dinesh Nanda (21-10, 21-3).
In men’s above 55 singles, SS Yadhav defeated DD Magotra (21-7, 21-4) and in men’s doubles above 45, Sanjeev and Nazneen prevailed over Dinesh and Ram Gupta (21-7, 21-6).
