JAMMU, Feb 10: For the first time in the history of Indian Music an entrancing programme of Musical Sonnet Sandhya was presented by Dogri Sanstha in collaboration with PG Department of Dogri at jam-packed Auditorium of Department of Computer Science, University of Jammu here today.
Melody aficionados were charmed by the depth of Dogri Sonnets penned by Late Kunwar Viyogi and flight of soulful music.
The magical compositions were prepared by the noted music director Brij Mohan.
The singing of sonnets were rendered by Indu Bala, Sonali Dogra, Naveen Sharma, ,Varsha Jamwal, Saharsh Talwar and Karuna Majotra while the senior thespians, Radio and TV artists Gurmeet Batra Jamwal, Rajeshwar Singh Raju, Kusum Tickoo, Abhishek Bharti, Amar Chauhan, Saras Bharti and Pawan Verma gave voices to the live recitation of choicest sonnets.
The singers were accompanied by Rakesh Anand on flute, Sanjay Pashi on Guitar, Darbari Lal and Joginder Pal on Pry film on the percussion.
A special feature of the concert was a free verse of Padma Sachdev in the golden voice of Indu Bala.
A documentary film on life and works of Chhatrapal, whose birthday coincided with the today’s event, was presented by KVM Trust.
Congratulating the Dogri Sanstha for organizing the first ever Sonnet Sandhya in India, the chief guest Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor Jammu University said that this was a unique experience to listen to the heartrending poetry of Kunwar Viyogi.
Poonam Singh Jamwal, founder of Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust and daughter of the late poet threw light on the functioning of the Trust.
Earlier, President of Dogri Sanstha Chhatrapal presented welcome address.
On this occasion, Music Director Brij Mohan was honoured by Dogri Sanstha.
Mementoes were also presented to the artists and singers by the chief guest and the other dignitaries. The event was anchored by known TV and film artist Kusum Tickoo.
