AJKCA’s Chess Training prog gets underway

JAMMU, Feb 24: Chess Training program for Kathua district initiated by All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association (AJKCA) started today at Pathway International School, here.
The programme was conducted by All J&K Chess Association under its Chess in Schools program.
Lecture on basic chess rules was delivered by Atul Kumar Gupta, President All J&K Chess Association and also chief patron chess in schools program for Jammu and Kashmir State in the presence of Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, Chairman Chess in schools program and Dr. Divij Suri, President chess in schools program for Kathua district and also Chairman of the school.
Dr. Divij suri made all the arrangements for the program.
After the program, a district level Chess tournament was also conducted which was inaugurated by Dr Kulvinder Kour, Principal Women’s Degree College Kathua as a chief guest.
Abhay Pratap Singh, Anik Andotra and Adhiraj Singh won the gold medals in boys section, while Pragun Sharma, Shreyal Yadav and Sannidhya Singh bagged the gold medals in girls section.
The medals, mementos and gifts were distributed among the winners by Atul Kumar Gupta, Dr SP Suri, Director of the school and Kuljeet Singh Jamwal.
Also present on the occasion were Amarnath Biswas, R. Sharma and Arun Manhas, Secretary Chess in schools program among others.
Pathway International school has also decided to start chess as a compulsory subject in the school on Russian pattern.
