JAMMU, Feb 25:  Jammu and Kashmir Bachao Tehreek leader and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today asked the Government to come clear as to why it is shying away from holding a time bound enquiry against the “scamsters and fraudsters” who have looted the State exchequer.
Vakil said the Government has rendered the commissions especially the State Accountability Commission (SAC) toothless and functionless. He said the situation of the much needed and vital Commission’s is now that its chairman is fighting for the requirements of the SAC.  “How can the SAC hold anyone accountable when it lacks all the basic requirements to do that,” he said.
Former Minister said he fails to understand what stops the Government for holding an independent commission to probe the assets of both sitting and former Ministers, bureaucrats and legislators. “There were people who had nothing in kitty. But after they became ministers and MLAs, they created huge assets. Where has that money come from?” he said.
Vakil reiterated his demand that a High Court bench should be commissioned to hold enquiry into the assets of `Babus and Mantris’. “Instead of touching the big wigs the Government is catching hold of class fourth employees. But the big wigs are not even touched,” he said.
He further said that the sentiments of people of Jammu and Kashmir are associated with J&K Bank. “It is the property of the poor people of the State. I don’t know why J&K Bank is not releasing the list of defaulters and other people, whose NPA has crossed over hundreds of crores,” he said.
