NEW DELHI: National Democratic Alliance leaders Uma Bharti and Ramvilas Paswan on Wednesday condemned the vandalisation of statues of Lenin, Periyar, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Ambedkar in parts of the country.

”I strongly condemn the incidents that started in Tripura and reached Chennai. There is no place for political or ideological intolerance in the country,” Ms Bharti said outside Parliament.

She said such incidents should be strongly criticised and stern punishment meted out to the culprits.  Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event, Mr Paswan said nobody has the right to take law and order in their hands.

”I am happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah have strongly condemned the incidents.

State Governments should ensure such incidents do not recur and must bring the culprits to book,” Mr Paswan added. (AGENCIES)
