Over 20 lakh children administered Polio drops across State

JAMMU, Mar 11: The second round of 3-day Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme began today and a total of about 20,17,178 children were administered anti-Polio drops at 11,527 booths setup throughout the State on first day.
The programme was kick started by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat, from Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar in Jammu where he administered polio drops to children. Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr Pawan Kotwal and other senior officers of the department were also present on the occasion.
A model pulse polio camp was organized by the Department in the premises of Gandhi Nagar Hospital, wherein scores of children below the age of 5 years were administered the doses of pulse polio.
Speaking on the occasion Bali reiterated the commitment of the Health department in keeping the State polio free. “Although there are no cases of polio in the State since 2010, the efforts for eradication need to be sustained in view of risk from neighbouring countries,” he said and added that unless eradication of polio in neighbouring countries is achieved the department needs to work relentlessly for keeping polio at bay in the country.
The drive was also carried out at Gandhi Nagar by Hakim Saheb Charitable in collaboration with Rotary Club of Jammu. The Rotarians of Rotary Club of Jammu had installed an impressive booth where Dr M A Alim Sole, Trustee of Hakim Saheb Charitable Trust joined to assist the Rotary members. The response was encouraging in the effort to keep India Polio free, after tremendous strides to eradicate the disease from the country.
At Srinagar, District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, started the campaign at Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital, Rainawari. More than 1,87,173 children would be covered under the programme in the district for which a number of employees and volunteers were deputed across the district.
In order to ensure that cent percent target is achieved, the District Development Commissioner directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to constitute mobile teams for conducting door-to-door surveys in the district.
In Udhampur district, District Development Commissioner Ravinder Kumar inaugurated the programme by administering polio drops to a baby at District Hospital, Udhampur. The DDC was accompanied by Chief Medical Officer, Dr KC Dogra and other senior officers.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that during this campaign, children from the age group of 0 to 5 years will be immunized in the district along with sex ratio survey under “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”  that was started by DDC Udhampur during 1st Round, in which the sex ratio was observed to be 936/1000.
The Chief Medical Officer, disclosed that first day being booth activity, 540 booths were established throughout the district consisting of 2160 vaccinators along with 108 supervisors and 11 transit points consisting of 44 vaccinators and 3 supervisors.
In Ramban district, the campaign was launched by CMO Ramban, Dr Saif-Ud-Din Khan from District Hospital, Ramban. As many as 65000 children below five years of age were covered in the district under the vaccination drive against Polio for which 416 booths were setup by the district administration.
The campaign was launched at Darshani Gate Base Camp, Katra by Commandant, CRPF, 6th Battalion, Katra, Jatinder Kumar Gupta, in the presence of BMO Katra, SMVDSB Manager, Sham Singh. Seven transit booth of Pulse Polio were established at police post Moori, Nomain, Railway Station, Balini, Serli and Inderprast view point Adhkuwari for children of pilgrims while four general polio booths were setup at Bhawan, Sanjichat, Himkoti and Adhukuwari to cover the local children.
In district Rajouri, the campaign was launched by CMO Rajouri, Dr Suresh Gupta, from his office. He informed that on the first day of second round of Immunization drive, 85209 children in age group of 0-5 years were vaccinated for polio virus across the district in 634 booths and 19 transit points.
He further informed that 11837 children in Darhal, 17589 in Manjakote, 18575 in Kandi, 11884 in Kalakote, 13992 in Nowshera and 8342 in Sunderbani were administered the vaccine for Polio virus today.
The programme was inaugurated in Poonch district by Deputy Commissioner, Tariq Ahmad Zargar in the presence of Chief Medical Officer, Dr Mumtaz Bhatti and other medical staff of district hospital, by administering oral polio vaccine to a baby at Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital Poonch.
The DC said that oral polio vaccine will be administered to 75, 772 children up to the age 5 years for which as many as 426 pulse polio booths have been set up all over the district for this purpose. As the last report came in, 62582 children were vaccinated at booth level, whereas, 1653 children in transit points and total 3945 OPV vials were used.
At Ganderbal, Additional District Development Commissioner, NA Baba inaugurated the immunization programme by administering pulse polio drops to a newborn at District Hospital. Approximately 45,780 children are to be covered under the programme. Besides, 323 health workers, 340 ICDS workers, 258 Asha workers, 46 Supervisors and 19 voluntary workers have been also deployed on duty for conducting the drive successfully.
In Budgam district, District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Harun Malik inaugurated the pulse polio programme at Chief Medical Officers’ office. As many as 103359 children are target of the anti-polio drive in the district for which 2,429 workers comprising 1,059 Health Workers, 693 ASHA workers, 760 ICDS workers and 266 voluntaries have been deployed at 622 booths which include nine transit teams as well.
At Anantnag, District Development Commissioner, Muhammad Younis Malik, launched the drive with an aim to eradicate the disease from the district by administering drops to children at Maternity and Child Care hospital here. Around 1, 37,256 below five years-of-age children would be immunized during the campaign.
Besides, Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline in collaboration with Sub District Hospital Bijbehara and Childline Anantnag 1098 participated in another phase of pulse polio immunization programme. Around 36 volunteers rendered voluntary services at following pulse polio booths established by the Block Medical Officer Bijbehara.
In Shopian district, the IIPI phase-II campaign commenced today with Chief Medical Officer administering oral vaccines to children at district hospital here. It was said that 43371 children in the age group of 0-5 years are the target of the immunization drive for which 215 pulse polio centres have been established and seven transit camps, 11 mobile teams along with 42 supervisors have been deployed on duty for achieving cent percent target.
At Pulwama, Deputy Commissioner Ghulam Muhammad Dar kick-started the anti-polio drive at Old Hospital here. As many as is 92064 children in the age group of 0-5 years are being covered under the IPPI-2018 phase second. Around 472 booths have been set up in different areas across the district for which 534 ASHA workers, 573 Anganwari workers, 759 Health workers, and 95 supervisors have been deployed on duty.
In Kulgam district, the second round of the anti-polio drive was launched by Deputy Commissioner Talat Parvez Rohella by administering pulse polio drops to newborn infants at district hospital here. As many as 88514 children in the age group of 0-5 years are being covered under IPPI programme 2nd in the district for which 508 vaccine booths have been set up and 1016 health workers, 645 ASHA workers, 367 Anganwari workers and 101 Supervisors have been deployed on duty.
At Baramulla, the anti-polio drive was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Dr Nassir Ahmad Naqash, who gave oral vaccines to a newborn at the district hospital. A total of 157326 children are to be immunized during the second phase of the IPPI in the district, for which 870 vaccination booths have been established.
In Kupwara district, Chief Medical Officer kicked-off the pulse polio campaign at the Sub-District Hospital where he administered vaccines to newborns. It was said that 1, 36,262 children would be covered under the programme for which a number of polio booths and health workers and volunteers along with supervisory staff have been engaged for the successful conduct of the drive.
At Bandipora, the second round of the anti-polio campaign was launched by Chief Medical Officer by administering vaccines to children at the district hospital. A total of 65,000 children under the age of 5 years are target of the drive. It was said that 325 vaccination booths have been established in the district for which 1300 workers from Health, ICDS, Education Department and volunteers along with supervisors have been deployed in the district.
