15 JAT thrashes Shaheed Manjeet Singh Club (B) in inaugural tie

POONCH, Dec 5: 15 JAT thrashed Shaheed Manjeet Singh Club (B) by straight 2-0 sets in the inaugural tie of the Shaheed Manjeet Singh Memorial Volleyball Tournament being organised by District Police at Sports Stadium here today.
In the first set, 15 JAT outplayed Shaheed Manjeet Singh Club (B) by 25-19 points and in the next set again registered win by 25-17 points.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by SP Poonch, Shamsheer Hussain in presence of officials of police and District Youth Services and Sports Department, local populace, participating players and sports lovers.
While speaking, SP said that in addition to their duties, J&K Police is also fulfilling its social responsibilities for overall development of the society.
He also said that endeavour of J&K Police is to provide the platform to the youth to display their talent so as to channelize their energy.
While giving the detail of the tournament, SP said that 12 teams drawn from different parts of the district and local Army units are participating in the tournament.
He exhorted upon the players to exhibit the spirit of true sportsmanship and inculcate among themselves discipline besides maintaining the best tradition of communal harmony and brotherhood for overall development of the nation.
SP also disclosed that some more sports and cultural events in the district are in offing.
It is to mention that, this tournament is an annual feature organized by the District Police Poonch in memory of the Police martyr DySP Manjeet Singh who had sacrificed his life for the cause of the nation in the year 2003 at Bus Stand Poonch.
