JAMMU, Mar 24: Jammu University (JU), Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri, Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) Awantipora and Cluster University Jammu (CUJ) scripted convincing victories over their rivals in the ongoing 2nd State Universities Sports Championship 2018, being organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu at the University Campus, here.
In the first match, University of Jammu beat NIT Kashmir in a close contest by four goals to three 4-3. From Jammu University, Abhimaniyu, Aquib, Murtza and Aqil Rasool scored the goals, while Sanan scored 2 goals from NIT Kashmir and Faizan netted one.
In another match, BGSBU Rajouri beat Central University, Jammu by four goals to three (4-3). Usman Sohail, Burhan and Ishfaq were the goals scorers for BGSBU, while Mohd Roushik, Anshit and Mohd Aushraf scored the goals for Central University Jammu.
In the third football match, IUST Awantipora outplayed Cluster University Kashmir by a solitary goal (1-0). Furqan Zargar was the goal scorer.
In the fourth and last Football match of the day, Cluster University Jammu beat University of Kashmir by four goals to two (4-2). Stanzin, Rajan Singh, Manveer Singh and Bhanu Partap were the goal scorers from Cluster University Jammu (CUJ), while Mohsin and Hanan netted the goals for Jammu University.
The teams from the University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, SKUAST Jammu, SKUAST Kashmir, Central University Jammu, Central University Kashmir, Cluster University Jammu, Cluster University Srinagar, NIT Srinagar, SKIMS Soura, BGSB University Rajouri, SMVDU Katra, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan Jammu, Islamic University of Science & Technology Awantipora and Central Institute of Buddhist Studies Leh are participating in six sports disciplines including Cricket (M&W),Football (M),
Volleyball (M&W), Basketball (M&W),Table Tennis (M&W) and Badminton (M&W).
In Badminton (Women), University of Jammu beat SKUAST Jammu 2-1.Prabhjyot drubbed Shivali 21-10, 21-3, while Prabhjyot and Suvidha trounced Shivali and Bhawana 21-3, 21-6 and in Badminton (Men), Cluster University, Jammu defeated Central University, Jammu 3-2. Raghav Dogra beat Mandeep 21-4, 21-5; Adarsh outplayed Rahul 21-14, 21-12; Tushar and Sourav lost to Rahul and Akash 16-21, 11-21; Manchit lost to Akash 9-21, 17-21 and Raghav and Arshdeep Singh drubbed Bahul and Mandeep 21-3, 21-11.
In Volleyball (Men), University of Kashmir beat SMVDU Katra by 3-0 by 25-16, 25-22, 26-24; Cluster University, Jammu defeated RSS Kot Bhalwal 3-0 by 25-16, 25-21, 25-18; BGSBU Rajouri got the better of Central University Jammu by 3-1 by 26-24, 25-20, 17-15, 25-18; University of Jammu prevailed over SKIMS Soura by 3-0 by 25-12, 25-7, 25-19.
In Volleyball (Men) semifinal, Cluster University, Jammu defeated University of Kashmir by 3-0 by 25-19, 25-22, 25-17, while University of Jammu beat BGSBU Rajouri 3-0 by 25-19, 25-23, 25-19.
In Cricket (Men), NIT Kashmir beat Cluster University Jammu by 7 runs. NIT Kashmir scored 62 runs in 10 overs, while Cluster University Jammu scored 62 runs in 10 overs and the match ended in tie. In Super Over, NIT Kashmir scored 13 runs and Cluster University scored 6 runs, while in yet another match of men’s section, University of Jammu drubbed SMVDU Katra by 9 wickets.
In another match, Cluster University Srinagar beat BGSBU Rajouri.
In Cricket (Women), Cluster University Srinagar defeated BGSBU Rajouri, University of Jammu beat SMVDU Katra by 10 wickets, IUST Kashmir beat SKIMS Soura, Kashmir.
In Basketball (Men), Cluster University Jammu outplayed SMVDU Katra by 22 points, Cluster University Jammu scored 43 points, while SMVDU Katra scored 21 points.
In 2nd match, University of Kashmir thrashed BGSBU Rajouri by 27 points. University of Kashmir scored 32 points, while BGSBU Rajouri scored 5 points.
In 3rd match, Central University Jammu was awarded walkover.
In the 4th match, University of Jammu outplayed SKUAST Jammu by 15 points. University of Jammu scored 29 points, while SKUAST Jammu scored 14 points.
In Basketball (Women), University of Jammu trounced SKIMS Soura by 15 points. University of Jammu scored 18 points, while SKIMS Soura scored 3 points.
In another match, SMVDU Katra beat University of Kashmir by 4 points. SMVDU Katra scored 15 points, while University of Kashmir scored 11 points.
Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Dipankar Sen Gupta, Sunil Sahi and Pawan Singh Bhau were the chief guests in various events held today.
