POONCH, Dec 7: Defeating Pinto Club by (3-0) sets in the summit clash, Shaheed Manjeet Singh Volleyball Club, Poonch lifted the title trophy of the Manjeet Singh Memorial Volleyball Tournament, organized by District Police Poonch at Sports Stadium, here.
The closing ceremony was attended by large number of local people and sports lovers drawn from different parts of the district.
Commander 93 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier MK Mago was the chief guest, while District Development Commissioner Poonch, AK Sahu was the guest of honour on the occasion.
SP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain was also present on the occasion, who while speaking paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Police and other security forces who have laid down their precious lives for the cause of the nation. He said that it is due to the sacrifices of the martyrs that the peace has been restored in the State. He exhorted upon the gathering especially youth to contribute for maintaining the integrity, sovereignty and communal harmony of the great democracy of the world. He said that J&K Police is committed for providing platform to the players of different games and other activities for channelizing energy of the youth in a positive manner. Brig MK Mago and DDC Poonch also paid rich tributes to the police martyr Manjeet Singh and other martyrs of Police and other forces.
Cash reward of Rs10,000 and Rs 5,000 were given to winner and runners-up team respectively, besides trophies and individual prizes. Hardeep Singh of Pinto Club was awarded trophy of best player of the tournament. The game skill of Saqlain Tariq and Vipal Kumar was also appreciated by the gathering.
The matches were officiated by referees Bashir Ahmed Bakshi, Wali Mohd, Mohd Tariq Khan, Nirdosh Kumar and other officials of District Sports and Youth Services Poonch.
Prominent among those who present on the occasion include ADDC Poonch, Anwar Hussain Shah, ADC Poonch, S Tajinder Singh, ASP Poonch, Yougal Manhas, retired CEO, Kewal Krishan Kapoor and prominent citizens from different walks of life.
Pradeep Khanna conducted the proceedings of the programme.
