Examination is a test to show the ability and knowledge of a student and a process to judge the merit of a candidate. In the past few years the process got mired in controversy mainly due to leaking of question papers. Over the time, the manner of disclosing question papers has taken new shapes. In the past, perpetrators used to write down or xerox the test papers to leak them out. With the advancement of IT, question papers are being shared instantly in the form of snaps or text on various communication media including Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Email etc. Every scandal of question paper involves huge sums of money exchanged under the table. Students pass their exams with the help of leaked question papers are actually cheating themselves as well as the nation. This ugly episode has shocked thousand of candidates who work hard throughout the year. Recently controversies regarding leakage of exam papers of SSC-CGL was also in news and candidates were agitating against it. In our J&K State, KAS-2016 Mains exam was postponed due to mismanagement and controversies over wrong answer keys. JKSSB CGL-2015 exam was held two times in the State and three times in Doda district due to the mismanagement of the authorities. Moreover there are issues in J&K KVIB over selection procedure. The tradition of question paper leaking has emerged as a threat not only to education system of the country but also to the nation as a whole. It only damages the morale of meritorious students and those who burned mid night oil through out the year.
In the last, I would like to say that a proper investigation and punishment to those who were involved in it can stop this practice.
