JAMMU, Dec 9: PDDC (A) drubbed Jammu United by four goals to nil (4-0) in the summit clash to claim title trophy of the Christmas Soccer Championship, which concluded at GGM Science College Football Ground, here today.
Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani was the chief guest on the occasion, while Fr Kuriakose, Chairman Christian Sports Organisation J&K was the guest of honour.
Earlier, riding on 2 splendid goals scored by Bilal in 25th and 82nd minute of the match, PDDC (A) defeated Jammu United by (4-0) goals. The other two goals were scored by Zeeshan and Adnan in 20th and 65th minute of the match.
Though, Jammu United Club players made some good moves but failed to convert them into goals as PDDC (A) players were extraordinary in defence as well as offence to counter every tactics of the opposition. Demmy of PDDC (A) was declared man of the tournament for his fabulous display of soccer skills throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, Yellow cards were also shown to Zeeshan and Adnan of PDDC (A) for foul play.
The match was officiated by Rajeeb Deb, Ronny, Saudhagar Mattoo, Clint Mattoo, Rinku Gill, Elija Sotra and Moon Stephen.
Chief guest Nasir Aslam Wani distributed trophies, mementos and medals along with a cash prize among the winners and runners-up teams.
Speaking on the occasion, MoS Home appreciated the objective and the slogan of the tournament and said that such events apart from promoting sports and games in the State go a long way in helping the youth not to get derailed from the main stream as the slogan of the tournament is “Be Healthy and Don’t Do Drugs”.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were DIG Jammu JP Singh, DIG Traffic Shakeel Beigh, SSP Jammu VS Sambyal, SP South Rajeshwar Singh and SP City JS Johar. The tournament was organized by Christian Sports Organisation of J&K in collaboration with J&K Police Department, J&K State Sports Council and Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) under the overall supervision of Fr Kuriakose and Rajesh Gill, organizing secretary of the tournament.
