JAMMU, Dec 10: Calm prevailed on the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district today after last night’s heavy firing by Pakistan Army in which mortar shells and rockets were used creating panic among the people living in forward areas.
Official sources said the intermittent firing by the Pakistani troops in most parts of Krishna Ghati sector continued till early this morning. Intensity of the firing was heavy till 11 pm with mortars and rockets being fired on forward posts but it reduced in the midnight and came to an end with the onset of dawn.
Yesterday’s firing by the Pakistan Army was fourth ceasefire violation in past five days in Krishna Ghati sector.
According to sources, the Army had lodged a strong protest with Pakistan on hotline over unprovoked firing and ceasefire violations by their troops.
Meanwhile, sources said, troops were maintaining high alert all along the LoC to ensure that the militants didn’t manage to infiltrate into this side from across under the cover of Pakistan firing.
Troops from this side had to retaliate to silence the Pakistani guns and prevent any kind of infiltration from Pakistan, sources said adding that they were anticipating more intrusion bids from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) through twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
“The weather would turn foggy in the next few days along the LoC reducing visibility to zero. The militants would like to take advantage of fog to sneak into this side under the cover of Pakistani firing’’, sources said, adding the troops were monitoring all kind of movement on the LoC using Night Vision Devices and other sophisticated equipments to ensure that the militants didn’t manage to reach close to the LoC.
The Border Security Force (BSF) was also maintaining a high alert on the International Border as the militants could make similar intrusion bids on the IB. Pakistani Rangers had opened firing at Arnia, Hiranagar and Ramgarh sectors on the IB during past few days.
As reported, the BSF and Rangers had yesterday held flag meeting of the Company Commander level at Ballard Post in Ramgarh sector. The meeting had decided to hold another round at the senior level to resolve the issue of firing
