J&K, Jharkhand, Goa, MP boys enter semis; Chhattisgarh, Gujarat eves in last four stage

JAMMU, Dec 13: Scripting convincing wins over their rivals, the teams of Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh have made it to the last four stage in boys section, while in girls section Chhattisgarh and Gujarat have entered the semifinals in the ongoing 58th National School Games U-19 Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at various venues, here.
In the first quarterfinal, Jammu and Kashmir crushed Punjab by a huge margin of 89 runs in a one-sided affair.
Now, in the boys semifinals, J&K will take on Jharkhand, while Goa will face Madhya Pradesh.
Earlier, at MA Stadium, batting first, J&K sailed on splendid knocks from Farhan and Amir managed to score a good total of 104 runs in the stipulated 12 overs. Farhan scored fabulous 49 runs, while Amir contributed 45 runs to the total.
In reply, Punjab were bundled out for a paltry total of 15 runs in just 5.2 overs as Umar, Sultan and Aditya wrecked havoc in the rival camp by sharing seven wickets between them. Umar scalped 3, Sultan 2 and Aditya one.
The Jammu and Kashmir boys team is being accompanied by Farooq Ahmed Salroo and Jagtar Singh as coach and manager respectively, while Anju Gupta is manager of girls team and Sandeepan as coach.
In another quarterfinal at Parade Ground, MP defeated Chhatisgarh by 4 wickets. Batting first, Chhatisgarh scored 85 runs in 12 overs. Ankit scored 31 runs, while Farhan contributed 17 runs to the total. Jai Raj took 2 wickets for MP.
MP scored the required runs in 11.3 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets. Manoj top scored with 35 runs, while Ajay contributed 14 runs to the total. For Chhatisgarh, Farhan scalped 2 wickets.
At Jammu University Grounds, Jharkhand trounced CBSE by 13 runs in the quarterfinals. Jharkhand made 71 runs in allotted 10 overs with Jitender and Ashutosh contributing 27 and 17 runs to the total respectively. For CBSE, Sudhanshu was the pick of the bowlers, who took 4 important wickets. CBSE, in reply managed to score 58 runs, thus lost the match by 13 runs. Youngster Samrat played a brilliant innings of 24 runs for CBSE, but that was not enough to save his team from defeat. Harshit and Sourav claimed 2 wickets each.
In another quarterfinal match at Parade Ground, Goa defeated Tamil Nadu by a narrow margin of 8 runs to sail into the semifinals. Batting first, Goa made 77 runs in allotted 12 overs, with Darpan contributing maximum 20 runs. In reply, Tamil Nadu scored 69 runs to lose the match by a narrow margin of 8 runs.
In pool matches played today, Jharkhand trounced Rajasthan by 8 wickets, while MP defeated Punjab by 15 runs.
Meanwhile, in the two quarterfinals played in girls section at Green Field Gandhi Nagar today, Chhatisgarh scripted a narrow win over Madhya Pradesh by 3 runs, while Gujarat got better of Uttar Pradesh by 29 runs.
