JAMMU, Dec 15: The team from the Government Women College Parade lifted the Veeranna Aivaili Memorial Running Trophy as the 11th Inter-Collegiate/Departmental Debating Competition was organised today by the Indian Institute of Public Administration, J&K Regional branch, in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu.
Shriya Raina and Bharti Manhas, both from GCW Parade, bagged the first and third prize, respectively whereas Vinee Mahajan from GCW Gandhi Nagar Jammu was adjudged as second. The winners were presented cash prizes amounting to Rs 2500, Rs 2000 and Rs 1500, respectively.
Consolation prizes amounting to Rs one thousand each were awarded to Tamana Slathia from MBS College of Engineering and Technology and Ishtiaq Ahmed from Govt MAM College, Jammu.
Topic of the debate was in the opinion of the house, “Can the Youth Bulge be exploited for the benefit of the country.” Total 18 teams from various JU affiliated colleges participated in the competition.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof M P Singh Ishar was the chief guest whereas DGP Ashok Prasad presided over the prize distribution function. Late Veeranna Aivaili’s wife Mrs Swarna Aivaili as well as Girish Aivaili and Nitish Aivaili, both the sons, was also present on the occasion.
Dr Ashok Bhan, Chairman IIPA, J&K Regional Branch, in his welcome address, paid rich tributes to Late Aivaili while Prof N K Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, JU, presented the vote of thanks.
