RAJOURI, May 19: The Principal Secretary to the Government Health and Medical Education Department Dr Pawan Kotwal today reviewed the pace of progress on Govt Medical College campus and associated projects.
Rs 139 crore project comprising Rs 69 cr academic block, Rs 40 cr residential block for doctors, paramedics and students and Rs 30 cr for upgradation of District Hospital into teaching hospital, will have an intake capacity of 1000 medical students.
Dr Pawan Kotwal accompanied by District Development Commissioner Rajouri Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, visited the site and inspected pace of work on various blocks of the college.
A detailed presentation was made about the execution of work, safety and other specifications of the buildings besides physical and financial achievements. It was informed that 97% of RCC, retaining walls and foundation works have been completed and 35% of platform cutting work has been executed at overall expenditure of Rs 30 crore.
Responding to the issue of Rs 7 cr work done liability, Dr Pawan said there is no constraint of funds as the project is getting assured funding from the Govt of India. He said that Rs 41 cr will be released within a fortnight time. He further directed the concerned to speed up the work to complete the project within set deadline to avoid cost overrun. He directed for use of high quality hollow blocks in construction work keeping in view the climatic conditions of the area. It was decided that an auditorium will also be constructed in the GMC.
Later, the team of officers also visited District Hospital Rajouri and discussed plan for its upgradation into teaching hospital with addition of 200 bedded block to take the capacity to 500 beds as per MCI guidelines. The directions were issued for submitting a DPR for 2 lecture halls, 1 hall each for dissection and library at the earliest. It was informed that this much infrastructure is prerequisite for getting letter of permission from MCI to start class work.
It was also decided that a committee comprising CMO, MS District Hospital and Nodal Officer for GMC Rajouri project, under the chairmanship of DDC Rajouri, will review the DPR prepared for additional block and restrict it within Rs 30 crore by considering the optimal utilisation of already existing space in the district hospital and also including pre-engineered structures. The committee was asked to submit the revised project within 15 days.
