HYDERABAD, Dec 16:
Union Health Minister and AICC General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad today claimed that ‘no force on earth’ can stop the UPA from returning to power at the Centre for a third term.
Addressing the one-day State level convention of the State Congress party at LB Stadium here, Mr Azad said the party, under the leadership of Ms Sonia Gandhi, was effectively functioning and fulfilling the aspirations of all sections of people, including minorities SC and STs in the country.
He said leadership of Sonia Gandhi and economist Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had alone helped the country to overcome several challenges including recession and power crisis.
He said in Andhra Pradesh, the Congress Government has successfully implemented all welfare schemes of UPA-! and II and thereby earned the goodwill and following among the minorities , SC , ST and BC, Women and Youth.
Highlighting some of the schemes promoted by the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government, Mr Azad appealed to all party leaders to work with total coordination’ to achieve the goals of the party.
In an indirect reference to the demand of separate Telangana statehood, Mr Azad said Congress Party respected the aspirations of all regions of the people and was committed for all around development of backwards regions in the country.
Under NREGA scheme, nearly six lakh people were getting 100-odd days works to work and nearly 60 lakh houses were built for the poor across the country, he claimed and added that the Arogyasri health scheme is a brainchild of Sonia Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh and the Centre funded 80 per cent for the project cost.
He said the Congress Party was strong in the State and exhorted leaders at all levels to strive to and create confidence among the people by working unitedly and in close coordination with the Government.
He urged support of all sections so that the Congress Governments both at the Centre and the State would bring in more legislation for benefiting common man with more welfare. (UNI)
