UDHAMPUR, June 5: In a bid to prevent consumption of tobacco products at public places, Udhampur Police has launched a massive drive against those violating COTPA.
Based on the frequent complaints from the general public, directions were given to territorial officers to take action against COTPA violators.
Accordingly, Police teams under the supervision of DySP. HQ, Kulbir Handa and led by SHO Udhampur, Inspr Vijay Choudhary, SHO Rehambal Inspr Sanjeev Gupta, IC PP Roun and Tikri, launched a special drive in the Udhampur, Rehambal towns and their peripheral areas. Police challaned about 100 accused persons for smoking cigarettes and consuming other tobacco products at public places thereby violating COTPA. The accused persons and others from general public were also made aware with regard to the drastic ill effects of consumption of tobacco products and cautioned to stay away from the consumption of tobacco products and their sale to minors and near educational institutions.
According to SP Udhampur, Fiesal Qureshi, the drive will continue against the violators of COTPA.
