MENDHAR, Dec 20: The Department of Botany, Government Degree College, Mendhar organized a Quiz Contest under the guidance of Dr Mahroof Khan, HoD Botany and Prof Basharat Ali, here.
24 students participated in the event. The participants were selected on the basis of screening test of all the students of B Sc Part I, II and III. The students were divided into five groups namely – Algae & Fungi, Bryophyta & Pteridophyta, Gymnosperm and Angiosperm. The Quiz was composed of 10 rounds & score was calculated on spot. The students of groups Angiosperm won the first prize, while the 2nd & 3rd prizes won by Algae & Fungi and Bryophyta & Pteridophyta respectively. Prof Shabir Hussain Shah, Principal of the college presided over the function. He appreciated the students and Department of Botany for conducting such a dynamic test. He further stressed the students to go through revised, updated and elaborated literature and it will be equally useful to students for the various competitive examinations organised by UPSC, SPSC, UGC, IARI, CSTR, Department of Forestry and Medicines etc. Prof Sarshad Hussain also stressed upon the students about the deep knowledge of the subject beneficial for students in their career for appearing in any test faced by them. The prizes were distributed among the winners and the participants. Almost all the students and Professors of various Departments attended the function to make it colourful. Prof. Azar Bhatt acted as scorer. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Shokit Hussain Head of Chemistry Department.
