APS Jammu Cantt celebrates sports day

JAMMU, Dec 20: Army Public School (APS) Jammu Cantt organized 2-day Sports Meet in the School premise which concluded today. It was a gala event of mammoth size with over 1200 participants having a field day going head to head in various sports events.
Subhash House clinched the trophy for being the overall best in sports. Rolling trophy for best marching contingent was won Lakshmi Bai House. Saddam Hussain Class -IX & Sara Guratia Class XI were declared as the Best Athletes. New School record was set by Ravinder Singh Class X at 9s for 100 m Boys race, Ayana G Nair of Class X did it in 14s for the Girls.
The Principal Anu K Jandial hoisted the National Flag, declared open the 2-day Sports Meet and light the Sports Flame. The Meet got a flying start by the upcoming Sports persons Parthavi, Pavit and Jagjit who carried the flame round the track and lightened the cauldron of sports Meet. The Vice Principal K L Dogra released myriad coloured balloons symbolizing peace and freedom amidst the musical beats on the tune of National Song Vande Matram by the School Orchestra. Veteran TGT Urmil Sood was the Guest of honour.
The impressive March Past by the House Contingents, NCC cadets, Scout and Guides & the participants in the Sports Meet was led by Nitish K Jha & Deputy President of students’ council S Karan, an upcoming golfer. The oath taking ceremony was conducted by Vice President of Student council Ashwini Priyadarshini Singh.
The athletic events that evoked huge cheers from spectators include relay races comprising lemon & spoon, Lilly & poo-hop, tied rope, sack race, three-leg race, needle & thread race, long jump, shot put, 400m race, discus throw, javelin throw etc. These events displayed enormous team work and sportsmanship especially in 50m, 100m, 4x100m and fun races. The Meet also saw events of teachers who too were equally enthusiastically participated in some of the events.
While distributing prizes and trophies, Mrs. Jandial congratulated the winners for their excellent performance and encouraged them to do well in life.
