JAMMU, Dec 20: Scripting a convincing win over Rainawari Cricket Club (RCC) in the summit clash, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) XI lifted the title trophy of the Christmas Twenty-20 Cricket Cup at Parade Ground, here today.
The tournament, in which 12 teams participated, was organized by Christian Sports Organization J&K in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police Department.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, RCC scored a modest total of 105 runs in the stipulated overs. Ajay and Parveen were the main contributors with 27 and 26 runs respectively. Parveen hit 5 boundaries in his knock, while Ajay hit two. For JKP XI, Dilbag, Sunil, Shamser and Ashwani took 2 wickets each, while skipper Rajesh Gill and Vishal shared a wicket each.
In reply, JKP XI chased the target in 18.1 overs, losing 3 wickets in the process, thus won the match by 7 wickets. Naresh and Gurdeep played brilliantly for JKP XI and helped their team to win the title trophy. Naresh scored unbeaten 46 runs, while Gurdeep contributed valuable 35 runs and remained not out. For RCC, Showkat took 2 wickets, while Venus claimed one. Naresh was declared man of the match, while left-arm spinner Dilbag Singh was adjudged man of the tournament for superb bowling display. Shashi was named best batsman of the tournament, while left-arm spinner Kuldeep Kumar was adjudged best bowler.
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Fr Kuriakose Head Priest of Gandhi Nagar Church presided over the function. DIG JP Singh was the guest of honour, while SSP Jammu was the special guest on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were SP North JS Johar, SP Headquarter Shalinder Singh, Dy.SP Vinay Kumar, Dy SP Lazer Kandaraya, president, Christian United Federation Nicodemus, Surinder Singh Bunty, Secretary JKFA, Lal Gill, David Burat, David Mattoo, Narinder Gupta Secretary. Pradesh Congress Committee, Peter Sotra, William Mattoo, Asif Gill,Victor Sotra, David Mattoo, Donald Khokher, Navin Athwal and Marshal Gill.
In his address, Raman Bhalla lavished praise for the organizers for conducting the event smoothly and successfully on the occasion of Christmas and said that the sports events shall be organized jointly by all sports organizations so that sports culture can be maintained in the State and many platforms can be provided to the youth to help them not to derail from the main stream and avoid drugs and allied things.
Fr Kuriakose while addressing conveyed his Christmas wishes to the Christian Sports Organization, J&K and to all present on the occasion.
DIG JP Singh congratulated the organisers for smooth conduct of the tournament and said more such activities will be organized for the youths of J&K State with an objective to promote sports culture.
Cutting of Christmas cake was also conducting on the occasion by the chief guest and Christmas Carol Songs by the Gandhi Nagar Church Coir also attracted the audience.
Cash prize of Rs.10,000 was awarded to the winners and cash prize of Rs 5000 was to the runner-up team.
Meanwhile, the raffle draw of Sports Carnival of Youth of JK was also announced in which the 1th prize of Honda Activa went to Ticket No. 5850 namely Rinku Kumar of Gandhi Nagar, 2nd prize of HCL Tab to ticket no 34694 namely Karan Gupta of Bakshi Nagar and the 3rd prize of Samsung Colour TV went to ticket No. 449 namely Monika of Qasim Nagar.
The Jury members of the Championship were JS Johar, SP City, Ramesh Angral SO to IGP, Rajesh Gill, president CSO, Rajesh Dhar, Benjamin and Micheal, while Asif Gill and David Mattoo were the organizing secretaries. The tournament was organized under the supervision of Rajesh Gill, president Christian Sports Organization J&K.
