JAMMU, July 6: Kashmir is core of India and any differential treatment works against the unity of the country. This was stated by the former Union Minister, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta while remembering founder of Jana Sangh and veteran leader, Dr. Shayama Prashad Mukherji on his 117th birthday here today.
He said Dr. Mukherji believed in equal rights for all the countrymen and the religion cannot form any kind of division. If any concession or special route is adapted to appease anybody on this notion it would be against unity of India as this big country is having so many religions, he added that this was the philosophy of Dr Mukherji.
With this great vision, Dr. Mukherji had performed and opposed the moves for separate Constitution, separate flag and a separate head for J&K, he said and observed that it was irony that the rulers of the time arrested great leader and jailed him at Srinagar where he died in detention under circumstances shrouded in mystery but no enquiry was held despite veils of his aged mother and others.
Referring to problem of religious fanaticism in Kashmir, Prof. Gupta said this was the outcome of the wrong notions pampered by certain leaders at New Delhi with lack of far sightedness which has now grown as a monster endangering peace, progress and the very liberty of the people as also to democracy. The common man has been more hostage to act as a slave but for fear of gun, he added.
Stressing for decisive action against the ultras as also their mentors, Prof. Gupta assailed pseudo secularists who are trying to indirectly help the perpetrators of militancy but for being out of power and having little interest in the welfare of the people and the country.
He said the real tribute to Dr. Shayama Parashad Mukherji should be to act upon the principles of this great statesmen.
