Malik plots J&K collapse; HP in control

JAMMU, Dec 22: Paceman Vikramjeet Malik returned with a five-wicket haul to bundle out Jammu and Kashmir for a paltry total of 175 in 79.5 overs and put Himachal Pradesh in a commanding position on the opening day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Group C match, here today.
Malik scalped five wickets for 41 runs, while Rishi Dhawan and left-arm spinner Mukesh Sharma picked up two wickets apiece to wreck havoc in the J&K camp.
Earlier, put into bat, J&K lost 4 early wickets at the score of 56 runs in 29.4 overs, in the form of Ian Dev Singh (02), Manish Dogra (15), Aditya Pratap Singh (06) and Parvez Rasool (15). Later-on, a partnership of 47 runs  between Owais Shah and Obaid Haroon helped J&K to consolidate the innings. Ram Dayal top-scored for J&K with unbeaten 35 runs, while Owais and wicket-keeper Obaid made 34 and 33 runs respectively.
At stumps, Himachal Pradesh were on 26 for no loss after eight overs in reply to J&K’s first innings total of 175.
Captain Aakash Chopra was unbeaten on 16 while giving him company was Varun Sharma on eight.
