SRINAGAR, July 22: Jammu and Kashmir Awami Forum (JKAF) today organised a protest rally which started from village Kani-e-Dajan, Budgam and culminated near Charar-e-Sharif after passing through Barna Pathar, Chalyan, Batpora, Zeepanchal, Dalwan and Pakharpora villages.
Forum Chairman, Farooq Ahmad Ganai said the rally was the first-of-its-kind to awake the masses especially the rural folk against gun culture.
“We want to end gun culture from Kashmir as Kashmiris have suffered a lot from it,” Ganai said.
The Forum also demanded a blanket ban on alcohol.
Forum Chairman further said that they will help poor students in getting education and will work for a drug free society.
Over 1,000 members of civil society came together for the rally to promote harmony and religious tolerance.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Forum in the month of March this year had invited Sri Sri Ravi Shanker to address an event organised by it under the name Paigam-e-Mohabbat where around 12,000 people from all walks of life from across the Kashmir had participated.
