JAMMU, July 24: Vasu Dewan and Shorya Sharma, two top ranked players of the state won the inaugural J&K Table Tennis league, the final of which was played at MA Stadium, here.
In the final match Terminetters comprising of Vasu Dewan, Shorya Sharma, Maanay Mansotra and Ankit Sharma defeated Singh Warriors by 3-1.
In the final tie of the match Shorya defeated Maninder Singh 3-0 clinching the first title for their team.
Earlier in the Qualifier 1, Terminetters defeated Top Spinners in an interesting battle by 3-2 with Vasu winning the decisive match against Ketan to take their team to the finals.
The Eliminator saw some see saw battles with Singh Warriors finally clinching the win against Jammu Warriors by 3-1.
Qualifier 2 was played between Singh Warriors and Top Spinners, in which Singh Warriors emerged as the winners with Maninder Singh leading from the front saw his team through to the finals. It was a disappointing end to the Top Spinners campaign as they fail to cash in with the two chances provided to be in the finals of one of the most anticipated tournament.
Third place was secured by top spinners comprising of Ritvik, Manan Deep singh, ketan Sharma and faisal Mir.
Chief Guest on this occasion was Vikram Randhawa, MLC who witnessed the final match and also distributed the prizes among the winners.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr Randhawa congratulated the players for giving their best and also appreciated the organisers for conducting a wonderful first of its kind tournament in the state.
The chief guest also sanctioned Rs 7.5 lakh for the up gradation of the TT Hall. He also directed the authorities to improve the poor condition of the stadium specially the water logging outside the indoor complex.
Organising committee announced that this tournament will be included in the state calendar and next year this championship will be bigger and better.
Satbir Singh (former international TT player), Ajay Sharma, Naresh Gupta, Satish gupta (Manager Indoor Complex),Naresh Sharma, Sheetal Gandotra, Suresh Sharma (NIS coach), Sandeep Khadotra (NIS Coach), Gurvinder Singh(NIS Coach), Asad Sharma(Coach) were the prominent faces amongst the audience who cheered for the players.
