Girls Carrom, Netball competitions get underway

JAMMU, July 27: The District Level Inter- School competitions of District Jammu in the sports disciplines of Carrom and Netball Under-19 years girls got underway at MA Stadium, Indoor Complex and Dogra Ground, Shastri Nagar, here.
In all, 64 girls drawn across from 14 Zones of Jammu District are taking part in the competitions.
The competitions are being organised by the Department of Youth Services & Sports under the patronage of Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General, Youth Services & Sports  and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director. Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu is the Organising Secretary of the tournament.
The main objective of the tournament is to select the teams of District Jammu for the next level of competitions.
In Carrom Under-19 Girls Singles at Indoor Complex MA Stadium, Arushi of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Jammu bagged first place nad Niharika  of MIER Jammu claimed 2nd spot, while Carrom Under-19 Girls Doubles at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, Arushi Sharma and Riya Choudhary of Maharishi Vidya Mandir clinched gold, while Niharkha Mahajan and Vasundhra of MIER Jammu claimed silver.
In Netball  Under-19 (Girls) at Dogra Ground, Shastri Nagar, Carmel Convent School beat Oriental Academy by 3-2 and Carmel Convent drubbed Govt Girls HSS Rehari by 6-2.
The matches were officiated by panel of experts of department of Youth Services and Sports.
Meanwhile, District Level Inter School tournament for boys’ under-19 years in the discipline of Badminton began at Badminton Hall, Mini Stadium, Udhampur.
The tournament was declared open by the District Youth Services and Sports Officier Udhampur, Sudesh Kumar Chalotra in a well attended function.
46 boys drawn from 13 institutions of the district are taking part in the tournament, which is being played to pick the District teams for higher level competitions.
In Badminton Under-19 boys Singles event, Ritik of KC Gurukul defeated Matchew of Sharon Public School Udhampur, while in doubles Ritik and Mohit of KC Gurukul drubbed Matchew of Sharon Public School Udhampur.
