JAMMU, July 29: Ace Broadcaster and Kashmiri Writer Brij Nath Betab has been selected for senior fellowship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
According to the reports reaching here, Mr Betab will do research on the topic of comparative study of Indian and Kashmiri devotional poetry and will study the link between the Bhakti movement in India and its impact in Kashmir, besides the present day status of Kashmiri devotional poetry.
A special reference would be made to the pre Lal Ded period.
Reacting to the award of fellowship Betab expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Culture and the experts who approved his project.
“This subject is almost untouched till date and is very close to my heart. I wanted to take up this earlier but the paucity of funds was an issue. Now that the Government of India will give financial support, I hope to complete the project within the stipulated period,” Betab expressed.
The fellowship will be for a period of two years and the project will highlight the contribution of Sanskrit devotional poets like Jagaddhar Bhatt and Muslim bhakti poets of Kashmir.
