POONCH, July 31: To discuss various issues confronting the youth and larger population residing in border areas, a youth conference was organized in border village Mankote of sub division Mendhar.
The Vice Chancellor of Sai Nath University and native of Poonch, Dr Shazad Malik was invited as chief guest. He appreciated the initiative of get-togethers and conferences that are the most civilized and democratic way to deliberate upon any community issue jointly.
In the conference, the participants expressed disappointment over the slow pace of developmental activities in border areas as compared to other parts of the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
In unanimous voice, all the participants agreed to the demand and idea mooted by Dr Shazad for establishment of a single development agency (Border Areas Development Authority) that may cater the developmental needs of the border areas which are quite different from other civilians areas.
Drawing attention towards severe scarcity of drinking water in many areas of border town Mendhar, the participants urged the State Government to launch new schemes so that clean drinking water may be provided to the inhabitants of the border areas.
