JAMMU, Aug 1: Inter-School District Level Tournament for boys Under-19 years in the sports disciplines of Badminton, Yoga, Thang-Tha, Wushu, Sqay, Judo, Gymnastics, Fencing and Weightlifting for the year 2018-19 of District Jammu gets underway at Indoor Complex M.A stadium here today, while Samba District organised Inter-School competitions in the disciplines of Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi and Wrestling for boys Under-14 and Under-17 years at Sports Stadium, Samba.
The competitions are being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the patronage of Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad , Director General, Youth Services & Sports and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director.
Chanchal Kour and Sunil Kumar, DYSSO Jammu and Samba respectively are the Organising Secretaries of the tournament.
At Samba 275 boys participated in th events, while at Jammu, 150 boys are taking part in the competitions.
At Jammu, in the quarterfinal matches of Under-19 boys, DPS Jammu drubbed its rival by 2-0, APS Domana beat Ranbir HSS Jammu by 2-0, APS Ratnu Chak trounced MIER Jammu by 2-0 and APS Kalu chak trounced GD Goenka by 2-0.
The matches were officiated by the panel of experts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
At Sports Stadium Samba, in Kho-Kho Under-14 boys, Samba zone defeated Vijaypur Zone by 7-5 points and in Kho-Kho Under-17 boys, Samba thrashed Vijaypur by 15-6 points.
In Kabaddi Under-14 boys, Vijaypur zone defeated Purmandal zone by 34-20 and Purmandal zone got the better of Samba zone by 32-29 points, while in Volleyball Under-14 boys, Purmandal zone trounced Samba zone by 2-0 sets and in Under-17 boys, Vijaypur zone drubbed Ghagwal zone by 2-1 sets.
In Wrestling Under-14 boys, Rakesh Singh defeated Manzoor Hussain in 48 kg weight category of Under-14 boys, while in Wrestling Under-17 boys 55 kg weight category, Rohit defeated Mintu Khajuria and Shoket Ali drubbed Mehboob Ali.
