Protests, candle march continue against Delhi gang rape case

JAMMU, Dec 24 : Protests against the Delhi gang rape continued today with Jammu witnessing a number of peaceful demonstrations, candle- march and rallies by the students as well as civil society.
Several Jammu University students and activists of Progressive Students Association took out a march from the campus towards Press Club Jammu. Holding placards and raising slogans, they were demanding justice to the victim, capital punishment to the accused and security of women.
Carrying placards and shouting slogans, the students of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar also held a demonstration in the college premises and then took out a rally upto Press Club Jammu. Students of GCW Parade also held a peaceful demonstration near the college.
Activists of J&K Samaj Sudhar Committee and Vichar Kranti Manch held protest at Press Club Jammu and demanded capital punishment to the rape accused.
Resident of Kunjwani area took out a candle march and prayed for early recovery of the victim.
In Akhnoor, youth and students took out a candle march for early recovery and long life of the rape victim. Shouting slogans, participants in the procession were also demanding capital punishment to the accused.
In Kathua, students of different schools assembled at Mukhkherji Chowk and staged a dharna there demanding stern action against the rape accused. They also condemned the police action against the protesters at Indian Gate.
Reports from Srinagar said that protests were also held there against the Delhi gang-rape incident. Youth Brigade of Kashmir took out a rally and demanded stern action against the rape accused besides foolproof security of women across the country.
Majlis Mushawarat Shopian has also condemned the rape incident and expressed solidarity with the people protesting against the incident.
