JAMMU, Aug 8: Internati-onal Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu organized an interactive lecture for the students of MBA (International Business) Programme, as a part of the induction week, here today.
The resource person for the session under the ‘Prominent Lecture Series’ was Prof Sanjay Nadkarni, Director of Innovation and Research, The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, Dubai, UAE. The session was organized with the objective of acquainting the students of the MBA (International Business) Programme with the attributes of international business environment and familiarize them with how businesses operate at a global level.
Prof Nadkarni deliberated upon the economy of Dubai and cited various examples to illustrate the transformations that have taken place in Dubai to convert it into an integrated, modern and vibrant economy. He discussed Dubai’s model of economic development and portrayed the case of Dubai as an interesting one for any resource dependent economy wishing to achieve sustainable prosperity by engaging in better-balanced growth paths than those typically induced by exploitation of natural resources. He also threw light upon the role played by Government policies and private sector initiatives in such developments that have taken place over a period of time.
He also acknowledged the diverse profile of people working in UAE and deliberated upon the several opportunities and challenges being encountered by them. During his discussion, he elaborated upon the changing global scenario and extended the thought of global mindsets, out of the box thinking, open-mindedness, relationship building as well as creating cross cultural visibility.
Earlier Prof Deepak Gupta, Director, ICccR & HRM, University of Jammu, motivated the students of the MBA (IB) Programme to seek the commonalities and differences that persist across cultures and the need to acknowledge diversity in work organizations. He insisted the students to learn about the intercultural interventions that are necessary to succeed in today’s globalised and competitive world.
The session was highly interactive and set the pace for the deliberations. The session was attended by the students, research scholars and faculty at ICccR & HRM and members from Jammu Startup Community and Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Jammu. Dr Shivani Rana, Lecturer, ICccR & HRM, coordinated the event.
