Quit India Day anniversary observed

JAMMU, Aug 9: Quit India Day anniversary was observed here.
In connection with the Quit India Day anniversary, a function was held at PCC Headquarters Shaheedi Chowk Jammu, which was presided over by former Minister and Vice President PCC Raman Bhalla. Former Minister and Vice-president Mula Ram, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Ravinder Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Balwan Singh, Manmohan Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Indu Pawar, Hari Sing Chib, Pranav Shagotra, BS Sambyal, Krishan Lal Gupta and others addressed the gathering. The functionaries and leaders of District Congress Committee, Block Congress Committee, Seva Dal Congress, Mahila Congress and Youth Congress also attended the function.
Raman Bhalla in his address paid rich tributes to great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, Subash Chander Bose, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad, Dr BR Ambedkar and other top leaders who made numerous contributions and sacrifices to achieve freedom. He said that BJP stands exposed being power hungry who had compromised and surrendered the interest of Jammu region and there was total discrimination during their regime. It cannot befool the people of Jammu region by giving emotional slogans and now BJP and its leaders can face the people of Jammu when elections are near, Bhalla added.
Addressing the gathering, Mula Ram recalled the great contributions of National Leaders of Congress Party who suffered a lot and went to jails for achieving the freedom, while Ravinder Sharma said that the freedom struggle of the country launched by Congress Party (INC) led by father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, served a final ultimatum to the Britishers to quit India on August 9, 1942.
Earlier, former Minister Jugal Kishore Sharma flagged of a rally of Congress Seva Dal led by it newly appointed chief Rajesh Sadotra from Gandhi Bhawan Shalamar road, which reached Congress Headquarters at Shaheedi Chowk and took part in the Quit India Day function.
Former Minister and NCP Chief J&K State Randhir Singh while addressing a function organised to observe Quit India Movement day said the day is being observed in memory of those who laid down their lives in the freedom struggle of country. They (freedom fighters) sacrificed their lives not only to liberate the country from the foreign rule but also to have a Government of the people wedded to democracy, secularism and social justice but it has reached in few hands and large population is deprived, he added. Singh appealed to the youth of the country to get together to fight against the nexus of corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and the leaders who are encouraging only their family members. Krishan Kumar Digra, Vice President, Resham Singh Jamwal, Vice President NCP and Suram Singh, Chairman NCP Labour Cell also addressed the gathering.
Following the week long celebrations of Independence Day, DPS Nagbani observed Quit India Movement day. On the occasion, a skit was presented by the students in the morning assembly. All the students played their roles effectively. They portrayed the actual roles of freedom fighters and paid respect to them on this momentous day. Through their skit, students projected the importance of Quit India Movement. Principal of the school RK Verma addressed the students and threw light on the importance of the day.
