Fog plays spoilsport as J&K-HP match ends in draw

JAMMU, Dec 25: Foggy weather conditions played spoilsport as it delayed the start of the match between J&K and Himachal Pradesh by over three hours on the last day of the 4-day Ranji trophy Group-C at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
Earlier, foggy weather shattered the dreams hosts as the light seemingly looked playable but the umpires decided against it to break the rhythm of the bowlers as the match got delayed for hours together and later-on the hopes of the visitors Himachal Pradesh were dashed to ground as the foggy conditions prevented them to register a win against the Jammu and Kashmir when the play was stopped due to poor visibility on the last day of the Group-C Ranji Trophy tie at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
The visitors side was just 45 runs away from the target of 235 runs when the match was stopped.
Himachal Pradesh got three points while one point went to the kitty of Jammu and Kashmir after around 105 minutes of play could not take place due to bad weather.
Earlier in the morning, HP side was reluctant to begin their play amidst foggy weather conditions resulting into loss of complete pre-lunch session.
However, when game resumed after lunch, the visitors brought the total to 189 runs for the loss of two wickets in 49 overs at tea.
But, to their dismay, the game could not resume thereafter because of poor visibility.
Both Akash Chopra and Karanveer played confident innings for Himachal Pradesh as Chopra scored 50 off 80 balls and Karanveer remained unbeaten for 88 runs.
P Dogra was other unbeaten batsman with 43 runs in his account. For J&K, Ramdayal and Parvez Rasool claimed one wicket each. Ramdayal was adjudged man of the match for his splendid show with both bat and ball.
