Poonch XI, Shinning Star register emphatic wins

KATHUA, Dec 27: Scripting wins over their rivals, Poonch XI and Shinning Star Club Kathua advanced in the ongoing 3rd Police Martyrs’ Memorial North Zone T20 Cricket Championship, being organized by the J&K Police at Sports Stadium, here.
Earlier, in the first match played today, Poonch XI scripted a narrow win over Stadium XI Kathua by 9 runs. Batting first, Poonch scored 129 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process. Parvez was the top scorer with 34 runs. Stadium XI Kathua managed to score 120 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 9 wickets, thus losing the match a narrow margin of 9 runs. Parvez took 2 wickets for Poonch XI. For his all-round show, Parvez was adjudged man of the match. He was awarded a cash prize of 1500 and a trophy on the occasion.
In another match, Shining Star Kathua defeated Diamond Cricket Club Jammu by 9 wickets in an easy contest. Batting first, Diamond scored a modest total of 101 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 7 wickets. Shinning Star, in reply, rode on a superb innings of 71 runs by Parmod to win the match in just 7.5 overs by losing only one wicket. Parmod was declared man of the match for smashing power-packed 71 runs and taking one wickets. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1500 and a trophy from sponsor Ch Sohan Singh.
