JAMMU, Dec 29: BJP MP, Avinash Rai Khanna along with the State president of the Party Jugal Kishore Sharma today distributed relief material among 500 poor families of West Pakistani refugees at Swankha Morh-Vijaypur.
Expressing his serious concern over the human rights violation of West Pakistan refugees in the State, Mr Khanna said, “If late Inder Kumar Gujral and Manmohan Singh who had migrated from West Pakistan and settled in Delhi could become the Prime Ministers of the country’ then why the West Pakistan refugees in J & K are deprived of their rights since independence’’. The West Pakistani refugees in J&K are the worst victims of human rights violation as they have no right to live, to seek education and employment, own land and right to exercise their franchise in the State Assembly and Panchayat elections, he added.
He said 1.5 lac West Pakistan refugees living along Indo-Pak border in R S Pura and Suchetgarh, Bishnah, Samba, Hiranagar and Akhnoor constituencies are living in sub-human conditions without basic amenities and no body is caring for them. He said former Chief Minister of the State, Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah had promised for rehabilitation of the West Pakistan refugees but betrayed them and even the successive Governments in the State failed to provide justice to them.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma accused the Congress and the NC of harboring communal outlook on the rehabilitation of refugees from West Pakistan, who have settled in Jammu since 1947. He said Congress and NC are responsible for the apathy of refugees in the State. He said these refugees have been debarred from the permanent citizenship due to the vested interests of the political leaders especially of Congress and NC.
Among the other prominent leaders who were present at relief distribution function were Ravinder Raina, Dr. Tahir Choudhary, Vikram Randhawa, Janak Bharti and Shashi Pal Vaid.
