Militants abduct son, brothers of cops in South Kashmir

Mother, colleagues appeal for release

SRINAGAR, Aug 30: Militants this evening abducted six family members of Police men in South Kashmir taking the number of abductions of the family of the cops to seven during last 24 hours.
Militants tonight barged into house of Mohammad Shafi Mir, 38, son of Abdul Salaam Mir of Naman Kakapora in South Kashmir district of Pulwama and abducted him. He is driver by profession and brother of policeman Nazir Ahmad Mir, who is posted in Srinagar.
Militants also barged into house of of a police man, Shabir Ahmad Zargar of Kangan in district Pulwama and abducted him. He was, however, later released after questioning and thrashing.
Militants raided the house of another cop Ghulam Hassan Mir at Midoora in Tral area of Pulwama tonight and abducted his son Nisar Ahmad.
Nasir is working as a private school teacher and his father is posted at Traning centre Sheeri Baramulla as cook.
Militants entered into the residential house of SPO Hilal Ahmad Kumar at Midoora area of Tral and ransacked his house.Militants also beat up the inmates.It could not be known whether the SPO was present in his house or not.
Sources said militants tonight barged into the house of a police man. Inspector Nazir Ahmad at Arwani Bijbehara Anantnag and abducted his brother, Arif Ahmad.
Sources said militants abducted Gowhar Ahmad Malik, brother of DySP Aijaz Ahmad from his home at Katapora in Kulgam district of South Kashmir.
Militants entered into the house of police constable Mohd Maqbool Bhat at Arwani in Kulgam district of South Kashmir and kidnapped his son Zubair Ahmad Bhat.
Meanwhile. mother and students of faculty of BSc and MSc Sericulture of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K) appealed for the release of Asif Ahmad Rather who was abducted last night from his home in Tral in Pulwama district.
Rather’s mother made an emotional plea for the release of her son who was abducted last night from Tral area. She said that her son is innocent and demanded his release.
The colleagues of the man in university appealed for his release on “humanitarian grounds.” The students of faculty of BSc and MSc Sericulture of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K) appealed for the release of Rather.
Asif, who is pursuing Masters in Sericulture at the varsity, was abducted by a group of masked gunmen from his residence in Pinglish village of Tral last night. He is a son of a policeman Rafiq Ahmad Rather.
The students, in their appeal to the abductor of Rather, said: “We don’t have any idea why this happened to him. All we know is that he is such a helpful person in the entire college. Asif has never indulged in any illegal activity. We request to his abductors to set him free as he is innocent.”
