Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’ staged

REASI, Sept 3: Sangam Theatre Group in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today staged Prof. Ram Nath Shastri’s Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’ at Arnas, near here.
On this occasion S.C Dogra, Tehsildar was the chief guest while Raman Kumar, Sarpanch was the guest of honour and Kuldeep Singh, eminent person of the area was the special guest.
The play was directed by M. Akram Khan, which eulogizes supreme sacrifice of 16th century Dogra folk hero who laid down his life to protest against the injustice.
Due to pressures of relatives, with a piece of land as bone of contention, Bawa Jitto, a hard working, farm-less farmer was forced to leave his native village. Accompanied by his nine-year-old daughter, he takes shelter in the house of a friend in Shama Chak village.
Efforts of his friend Rullo results in a land grant from landlord in Shama Chak and one fourth of the produce was fixed as land revenue. Hard work put by Bawa Jitto turns a barren land into prolific treasure. This makes the landlord to go back from his word and now he asks for major share of the crop. Helpless Jitto, unable to endure injustice kills himself. The agony becomes boundless when Bua Gauri, his little daughter immolates herself on her father’s pyre.
Artists who performed in the play were Inderjeet, Anannaya Sharma, Rohit Kumar, Anil Kumar, Pallavi Rajput, Akshita Thakur, Sarita Bhagat, Aditya Sharma, Rajat Sharma, Rashav Banathia, Shuhbam Sharma and Pankaj Sharma.
The supporting staff included Rohit Kumar, Akram Khan, Rakesh Puri and Anil Kumar.
