HC seeks report on condition of jail inmates

Srinagar, Sept 5: High Court today sought a report from District Legal Services Authority about condition of jail inmates in various jails.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Alok Aradhe directed the District Legal Services Authority (SLSA) to report court on next date about the condition of jail inmates in various jails.
Earlier, Court had directed for indicating the capacity of jails with break-up of convicts, under-trials, women as also those who have been imprisoned under PSA and their period of imprisonment in jails.
State counsel B A Dar submitted that report in compliance of previous directions has been filed. Counsel appearing for Legal Services Authority submitted before the court that as the counsel for petitioner has visited various jails and filed the visiting report as such response to the report needs to be filed by Legal Service Authority in order to bring the factual position before the court.
