JAMMU, Sept 7: The PHE workers held protest demonstrations and took out massive protest rallies in support of their pending demands in Jammu city and also at various Divisional and Sub Divisional headquarters across the region today.
In Jammu, the PHE daily wagers including CP workers, ITI trained and need based workers etc. assembled in front of the office of Chief Engineer at BC Road PHE complex in the morning and held protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the State PHE authorities and Chief Engineer, PHE Jammu.

The protesting workers were demanding release of their pending wages and their regularization with out any more delay. They claimed that their association has resolved to observe 72-hour strike and they will also paralyse the supply as the higher officials except false assurances have done nothing to mitigate their sufferings. The workers from various Divisions and PHE Sub Divisions of Jammu participated in the rally. Several trade unionists also addressed the gathering.
The speakers criticized the higher authorities for not resolving the issues of the PHE daily wagers/ CP workers etc. They alleged that many workers have not been paid for the last more than three years and their families are facing starvation. This is cruel act on the part of State authorities. Their exploitation be stopped forthwith.
After holding protest demonstration for some time at the PHC complex, then the protesting workers moved towards Dogra Chowk and Tawi bridge and held protest on the road. They were carrying banners and placards, depicting their demands. They also disrupted movement of traffic for some time. The police then cleared the road by using force.
Similar protests were held in Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Nowshera, Doda, Poonch, Mendhar and several other places. The workers have gone on seventy- two hour strike and the water supply has been affected at various places with the ongoing strike of the workers. They have resolved to intensify their struggle.
