LEH, Sept 7: Shabir Hussain of Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre (LSRC) clinched the world’s highest Khardongla Challenge 7th edition of Ladakh Marathon today.
Covering a distance of 72 Km long run from Khardong village to Leh city in 06:50:38 Shabir got the first position followed by Tsering Norbo also from LSRC with 06:51:15 timing stood on second position. Karma Zopa of Vikas stood on third position with timing of 07:06:42.
The fresh snowfall on higher reaches of Khardongla made it difficult for the runners while crossing Khardongla pass however the runner inspite of such hostile condition cover the distance in good timing.
Earlier, Khardong Nambardar and HQ Dy SP Suraj Singh formally flagged off the runners from Khardong village in vie hours.
As many as 162 participants from different parts of world participated in the 7th edition 0f Ladakh Marathon, Ladakh annual mega sports event organised by a local Tour operators Rimo Expedition with the support of J&K Tourism, Hill Development Council and Bisleri which is recognised by Association of International Marathon and Distant Races (AIMS).
Expressing his delight over successful conduct of 7th edition of Ladakh Marathon Rimo Expedition Director Tsewang Motup said that Marathon was started with an aim to provide platform to Ladakhi youth, who has the natural god gifted stamina.
He informed that runners like Jigmet Dolma already made it into Mumbai Marathon securing third position. He also expressed his gratitude to all stake holders for supporting the event to make it grand success.
